Periodontal Disease – 6 Signs In Identifying Periodontal Disease
Thursday, June 25, 2009
Most people are totally unaware that they have periodontal disease. Before major symptoms and pain occurs, this health issue may have already set in. For those that do not get regular six month dental check ups they could be well on their way to losing their teeth and contributing to other major health problems.
Before the systems become severe, it is important that regular six month check ups with a dentist are made to identify periodontal disease.
SIX SIGNS OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE:
Ï Bad breath that won't go away
Ï Red or swollen gums
Ï Tender or bleeding gums
Ï Painful chewing
Ï Loose teeth
Ï Sensitive teeth
The first clue to periodontal disease is bad breath that is constant and won’t go away. When dealing with chronic bad breath, it is important that a systemic disease, such as diabetes, is ruled out. Other causes of bad breath that may have nothing to do with periodontal disease are diet (coffee, sugar, spicy foods) and medication (for colds and high blood pressure to name a few). Some sources of bad breath can originate in the lungs, sinus or stomach. These factors must also be considered. However, since about 80% of the population has periodontal disease, it is most likely that bad breath is caused by this disease in the mouth.
Those plump red gums that may look healthy to the uneducated eye are really symptoms of periodontal disease. Pay particular attention to the areas around the tooth. Red or purple coloring around the tooth indicate the disease. Healthy gums are pink with the surface showing “stippling”, like the surface of an orange, not smooth and puffy like a water balloon.
Gums that are tender to the touch and that bleed with the slightest aggravation are signs of periodontal disease. Gums should not bleed when brushing or flossing. Bleeding gums are an indication that the tissue is dying and infection is setting in.
Painful chewing is another sign of periodontal disease. Sharp pain located in just one tooth could be dental decay, a cracked tooth, one in need of a root canal or a new filling that is too high. Those with TMJ (Temporomandibular joint dysfunction) experience jaw pain, which is different than teeth hurting from chewing. Overall or non-localized pain is often the result of periodontal disease.
Teeth that are loose in the mouth from periodontal disease are caused by plaque deposits along and under the gum line around the bone of the tooth. The bone begins to deteriorate and the tooth looses its support into the jaw. Pockets form around the tooth further collecting bacteria, exacerbating the problem.
Sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet, sour and cold air can also be a periodontal disease symptom. Gums that are receding due to the disease expose the root surfaces that are covered in tiny tubes leading to the nerve in the tooth. When the external stimulus (hot, cold, etc.) is introduced to the exposed portion of the tooth, pain is felt in the nerves.
Although late stages of periodontal disease show signs, early stages do not. Visit your dentist before the signs appear.

Six Pack Abs - Myth Alert
Thursday, June 18, 2009
Washboard, killer, 6 pack abs. Good looking men and women with glorious midsection are admired and make other people's jaw drop. If we can just do 100 sit-ups a day, then it is feasible to get the ideal abs that we need.
Myth alert!
it kind of feels like not all the things that we heard from gurus or overheard in the general public areas are true. Perhaps the rationale why we are not getting those perfect abs are because we're not doing it right. Then that would be such an awful waste of our time. So we want to know the myths and what is real to get the chiseled abs we need.
Six pack myth one : abdominal muscle is different from regular muscle.
Muscle is muscle. Intestinal muscle is similar with our biceps and lats. The sole difference is the location. Abdominal muscles are not resting on a bony surface, instead it is against the belly and viscera. There's no significant difference whatsoever .
Six pack myth two : strong abs means a strong back.
The key to a strong back is a balanced abdominal muscles. You can work your abs, but no more and approximately you work your other muscles throughout the day. There are heavy stress on working your abs, this heavy stress is commonly misunderstood to be the contributor of food health. Infomercials give the fake belief that by working out just one part of your body will give your fitness great benefits.
Working out and exercise should not just be involved with one part of the body. What you want is an overall body fitness to be healthy.
Six pack myth 3 : you have to train your abs at least every other day.
They are saying you need to train your abs hard enough two times a week, that is to give them time for recovery. The secret is to select exercises that fatigue your abs, in order that they actually need recovery time. Include exercises that use the abs functionality. Since abs are used to stabilise the body, holding a push up position without letting your body sag will truly feel and develop your abdominal muscles.
Six pack myth 4 : To gain results, high repetitions are needed.
The key to abdominal gains is the to overload. If you aim abdominal endurance, the more crunches you do each time, the more you can do later. It doesn't strengthen the abs terribly much but it also eats up most of your time.
Six pack myth 5 : Hard rock abs can be accomplished by doing a lot of sit-ups.
Many doctors say that sit-ups and crunches are the work exercises and maybe should not be done. A common mistake done during crunches, is throwing the neck out. Crunches and sit-ups cause the abdominal muscles to be pulled to tight, this excessive pulling put stress on the neck or what is known as throwing the neck out. The overuse of crunch type exercises may even lead to the reduction of thoracic extension and makes a contribution to bad posture.
Six pack myth six : It takes years to get great abs.
Everyone has abdominal muscles, you only need to train them in the proper order and reduce the fat surrounding them. For some, it would most likely take a fortnight. For other it may be longer. Different body type develop at different rates.

Fitness Is A Lifetime Investment
Thursday, June 11, 2009
From our very beginnings, as little kids, any time we put into our personal fitness is actually an investment in our future. Just as we try to build up our financial wealth, we should be doing the same with our health, as this will determine our quality of life as we age. Consider such things as the proven compound effects that smoking can have over the lifetime of a smoker and how detrimental it can be to their health. The opposite effect occurs when we do any form of fitness training even if it is only for a few minutes a day, or for short periods a few times a week.
It has been shown, failure to exercise regularly, can similar effects to smoking a pack of cigarettes each day. We don't have to do hours of long intensive weight training 7 days a week to get fit or increase our overall wellness. To lose weight we don't need to go on strict diets that are too hard to maintain. We simply need to stay active. In addition to the benefits that physical activity has on our body and its organs, it also has tremendous benefit to our minds! At eFitness for Life, we are strong believers that Physical Fitness Leads to Mental Fitness.
In most cases it takes quite a bit of time for most people to become overweight or severely out of shape and more often than not, this occurs from eating just a little too much of the wrong foods, a little too often. If we are to reverse that situation and only reduce our calories by 100-200 per day, to start, which is something that most people can achieve without too much difficulty, then the effect after a year or so can be quite dramatic.
Additionally, if we were to simply walk for twenty minutes three or four times a week, we would be a lot healthier after a year of such exercise. Adding a resistance training routine of no more than 30 minutes, three times a week would have significant effects. For those who cannot find that much time from the start, shorter, even as little as 10 minutes per day, on interval training routines that can be done at home would prove substantial.
None of these small changes will encroach on our lifestyle to any extent, but they can make the difference between normal activity when we age and the inability to get the most out of life. The sooner we start to make these changes the more health we are investing in for our future. One of the best things about easy fitness like this is the fact that it gets even easier the more we do it and oddly enough, most people find themselves enjoying the process more than they ever thought possible.

Are Warts Harmful?
Thursday, June 4, 2009
Do you have warts on your skin? If so, you are definitely not alone. A large number of Americans have warts. In fact, many individuals have more than one wart. If you have a wart, are you thinking about having it removed? Although you might think that you need to have it removed, do you know that the choice is yours to make? In almost all cases, wart removal is completely optional.
If you currently have a wart or a number of warts on your body, there is a good chance that you already know exactly what they are or how they are caused. Warts have been known to be caused by a particular strain of the Human Papilloma Virus, otherwise known as HPV. Warts, in most cases, are completely harmless. This is because they are considered benign skin growths. Benign is another word that is used to describe non-cancerous skin growths. Since there is a good chance that your wart is completely harmless, you may not need to have it removed.
Although you do not necessarily need to have your wart or warts removed, you may want to. Despite being harmful and painless, there are some warts that can be painful. In most cases, you will find that the pain associated with a wart depends on where it is located. For instance, warts on your feet may be painful, especially if you are walking on them each day. Also, warts on your hands may be painful, especially if you use your hands all day, say at work. If that is the case, you may seriously want to think about having your warts removed. After the removal procedure has been completed, you will likely find yourself without pain.
You may also want to have your wart or warts removed if they are noticeable. It is no secret that some warts, especially those large in size, are unattractive or unflattering. Of course, you shouldn't worry about what everyone else thinks, but you need to do what is right for you. Therefore, if the warts on your body are causing you discomfort, not physical discomfort, but discomfort associated with your appearance, you may want to think about having those warts removed.
It is also important to note that warts can be transferred from person to person. Although this can happen, it doesn't always. There are some individuals who are more susceptible to warts than others. Since you do not know who those individuals are, you may want to think about having your warts removed. You may want to do this, no matter where your warts or located, but you may want to be a little bit more concerned with the warts that are on your hand, since you will likely shake hands with others. If you find yourself regularly around other people, whether those people be your own family or co-workers, you may also want to think about wart removal, if not for yourself then for those around you.
If you are interested in having your wart or warts removed, you will have a number of different options. By visiting your primary care physician, you should be able to have your wart or warts removed, within a matter of minutes. If you are concerned with the cost of seeing a healthcare professional, you should be able to perform your own wart removal procedure. This can easily be done by purchasing over-the-counter wart removal products. These products are available for sale, often for a reasonable price, at most grocery stores, drug stores, and department stores. You could also give home remedies a try, although you are urged to be cautious when using them. A number of different home remedy recipes can easily be found online, with a standard internet search.
As previously mentioned, it is your decision as to whether or not you want to have your wart or warts removed. Although it may not seem like a large decision, it is. Wart removal is not always guaranteed, your warts could return overtime; therefore, it is advised that you thoroughly examine all of your options before making a final decision.
